Andrea took up yoga in 1996 after a difficult time of anxiety, stress, depression and panic attacks, practicing mainly Hatha and Ashtanga styles. One day, she went to a Dru taster day and loved it! She immediately signed up to train as a Dru teacher as she felt the healing potential of the inner stillness, the spirituality and energy focus of Dru, and she has been practising ever since. In 2009 she began teaching, and now helps the teacher training course in Leeds, bringing new students on and inspiring people to take this path. Her aim through her classes is to send people out into their day with the smile that arises from the positive effects of Dru yoga, and to help people to feel better about themselves in an ever changing world, feeling safe and secure through the constant changes that happen in life. Each class resonates with vibrations of love and kindness in the hope that when students leave her classes happy and open, they will then pass on that feeling to others who may be in need of a little lift - the effects of yoga can be far reaching! This is Andrea's passion - she lives and breathes it, and is grateful for the honour and the privilege of teaching and living her passion. Andrea is also a Massage therapist, Aromatherapist and Reiki level 2 practitioner.
Chloe McKay has recently returned to her hometown of York after living and teaching in Western Australia for the last two years. We are delighted that she is available to bring her Ashtanga practice to the studio. Chloe originally gained her BWY and YA accreditations at Triyoga in London in 2012, but she has continued to train extensively, including a 40 hour Ashtanga Intensive with David Swenson in 2013. Chloes teaching is influenced by Buddhist mindfulness and the work of Sarah Powers among others. Her classes are relaxed and playful with an emphasis on mindful breath awareness and conscious movement, supported with proper, safe alignment. Chloe likes to include some philosophical teachings alongside the asana practice, and she offers an inclusive class, with options for different abilities.

A Reiki Master/Healer and Guided Visualisation & Affirmation Teacher, Daniela has been practicing Reiki since 2007, receiving her Master in 2009. She studies and believes in the simplicity and authenticity of the Usui Japanese style of Reiki taught by Reiki Evolution, focusing on self-healing and spiritual development through self-practice, meditation, hands on healing, mindfulness and following of the 5 Reiki Precepts. Whilst pregnant with her daughter, Daniela continued to follow a daily Reiki practice, with regular hands on healing, distant healing and meditations. She also ran her first Reiki Shoden Level I and Reiki Okuden Level II Courses. She found using Reiki in pregnancy empowering and calming; she believes it helped bring balance and allow a deeper connection with her baby. Whist pregnant, Daniela also attended a Guided Visualisation & Affirmation Teachers course run by Anna-Louise Haigh, in Harrogate (a course accredited by the Federation of Holistic Therapists). She finds working with Guided Visualisation and Affirmations a highly enriching and creative experience. Daniela used Visualisations and Affirmations to release any fears she had about labour and birth and went from feeling terrified about giving birth to knowing birth was a powerful, yet natural event and the outcome would be a positive one. Together with Reiki, Guided Visualisations and Affirmations are useful tools to use in healing someones past, enriching their present and empowering their future to live a life more authentic, and to become the person one was born to be.
Hannah Greenheld is an experienced Mental Health Occupational Therapist working as an Mindfulness Teacher in the NHS and Private Sector.
I trained as a PE teacher at college, where I found I loved the study of movement and dance. I continued this love of movement by training with the KFA (Keep Fit Association) and taught classes part time alongside my PE work in York schools.I discovered Pilates over ten years ago which I felt perfectly fitted my style - individual with a touch of creativity! Teaching Pilates allows me to really know the person - my clients, whether in a group or individual setting. The opportunity to teach in a more relaxed and individual style appeals to me as does the pleasure of teaching itself. I trained with Modern Pilates and have continued my training with them and APPI (the Australian Physiotherapy Association). My Pilates career started with the Hilton Group (now Bannatynes) and Fitness First. I currently run private classes. I keep fit myself doing a mixture of tennis, badminton and of course plenty of Pilates. Working at York Yoga Studio will be such a pleasure. My classes are always relaxed and focused on making you feel at your best through a variety of Pilates exercises. I look forward to meeting you and working with you to help you achieve your goals, whether they are rehabilitation, relaxation or just to take an hour out of your daily life to focus on your own health and wellbeing.

Kate Goodwin ï¬rst began Iyengar Yoga lessons 12 years ago and has been practising ever since. The Iyengar Method appeals to her because of its unique precision and depth. Iyengar Yoga Teacher certification is a long and thorough process, and Kate recently passed her Level 1 & 2 Introductory Teaching Training. Kate says, "Having my children gave me a new respect for my body. As many of you will know being a parent demands a lot of physical and mental energy. My yoga practice has kept me happy and strong despite the ever increasing daily demands of life. Though at times challenging yoga remains a constant source of peace and joy. My aim is for all my students to leave a yoga class feeling refreshed, revived, restored and relaxed and ultimately better than they did on arrival!"
Laurie brings an exuberant American feel to her yoga as she trained at Sun & Moon Yoga Studios in Mankato Minnesota Sun Moon Yoga with Yoga Alliance and she still maintains strong links with the US yoga community. She is the owner and proprietor of York Yoga Studio and offers Hatha Yoga classes suitable for all levels, Vinyasa Flow focusing on breath and movement, and Introduction to Yoga ideal for beginners. Her particular passion is bringing yoga to new students, as she believes strongly that everyone can benefit from a yoga practice which develops strength, mobility, awareness and serenity.
I believe that happiness comes from having great energy and great relationships. If you can be really connected and loving and bring the energy you need to any situation then everything you need is going to come to you and most importantly you will be victorious.
Without energy nothing exists and without nourishing relationships (particularly the one you have with yourself) everything in life can seem dull.
On my own journey I have found that the most useful tools I have come across for helping me develop great energy and great relationships have been Gestalt Psychotherapy and Kundalini Yoga (as taught by Yogi Bhajan). I feel so blessed to be able to bring these tools into your life now.
I am a fully qualified Gestalt Psychotherapist and Couples therapist. I am registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), I am CRB checked and I receive regular supervision. As a Kundalini Yoga Teacher I am registered with the Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association, KYTA.
Happiness is Your Birthright
Nicky Thomas has enjoyed the practice of yoga for over 20 years and completed the Yoga Alliance training while living overseas. Informed by her background in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nicky has an understanding of many health problems, which she likes to address through her yoga practice. She believes that yoga can be a good source of healing, not only in its ability to relax the mind and ease anxiety but also in being able to provide relief from various physical symptoms and conditions, such as tension headaches, neck and shoulder tension, low back pain and tiredness. Through stretching and deep breathing yoga teaches us to let go of constriction and tension in the body that may be causing stress and pain, so that our energy can flow more freely. Nickys classes are tailored to the needs of her students. All ages are welcome as her classes are designed to take into account any physical limitations that a student may have, whilst still deriving all the positive benefits such as greater strength, flexibility, balance and relaxation.
Nicky also trained in Qi Gong and Tai Chi, which are strands of Chinese Medicine, with two Chinese martial arts specialists during her time overseas. Qi Gong is a series of gentle fluid movements combined with deep breathing that help to improve the circulation of blood and oxygen throughout the body; strengthening joints and muscles that may have become weakened through repetitive use or age; improving energy and relaxing the mind.
Nickys love for both forms of movement inform her practice today and she regularly incorporates a little Qi Gong into her yoga classes to help students combine movement with deep breathing, enhancing relaxation and developing a greater awareness of the body.
In addition to teaching yoga here at the Studio, Nicky practices acupuncture at York Yoga Studio and York Natural Health and is a Clinic Supervisor at the Northern College of Acupuncture.

Stewart is a fully qualified ashtanga yoga teacher, offering lessons for both beginners and improvers. Yorkshire born and bred, Stewart brings a direct but warm and supportive approach to his teaching.
