Yoga for Stress and Anxiety, 2pm - 5pm Sunday 2nd July 2017

Do you live with high levels stress or anxiety, or work in mental health? Do you teach yoga or wish to develop your knowledge about yoga? This workshop on using yoga to cope with stress and anxiety will give you the knowledge and tools to support both your mental wellbeing and advance your knowledge about the practical long-term benefits of this practice.
The workshop will involve an exploration of specific pranayama (breath control) techniques to help regulate the autonomic nervous system, particularly measuring Heart Rate Variability. We will also focus on using Asanas (postures) and grounding techniques to prevent anxiety, activating the relaxation response that physiologically benefits both body and mind. This will be followed by Yoga Nidra, which is known to release dopamine, helping to control the brain's reward and pleasure centres, inducing a sense of calm and clarity to the mind. There will be an emphasis on the physiological and neuroscientific benefits of each practice, to give participants the knowledge of how specific yoga techniques affect the body and mind.
Kathy is a qualified yoga teacher and mental health specialist. Her experience and expertise derives from her background working with people with mental health issues with the Assertive Outreach Team, based in York, during which time she used yoga with clients to support their diagnosis, empowering them to progress toward improved health and well-being.
Kathy’s workshops are always interactive, supportive, fun and very informative. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced practitioner of yoga, all levels of experience are welcome. All participants will be provided with follow-on literature to support ongoing practice at home.
